The Panama Canal welcomed its biggest ship so far - the purpose-built 10 589-TEU neopanamax Valparaiso Express, built to transit the newly expanded waterway.
The Hapag-Lloyd ship began its transit at the Pacific-facing Cocoli Locks after calling at ports in Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, according to a Panama Canal Authority (PCA) statement.
After its transit, the ship stopped at Manzanillo International Terminal in Panama and continued to the Dominican Republic, the UK, Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
