On 17 November 2022, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) called for comment, which is due by 15 December 2022, on its proposed creation of tariff subheadings in Chapter 30 “Pharmaceutical Products” in Schedule No.1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 “Ordinary Customs Duty”.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) made a request to SARS for the creation of new tariff subheadings for vaccines used in the “Expanded Programme on Immunisation” for both national and provincial Departments of Health.
The tariff subheadings in question are:
- 3002.41.20 Bacilles Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
- 3002.41.25 Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)
- 3002.41.30 Rotavirus Vaccine (RV)
- 3002.41.35 Diphtheria, Tetanus, Acellular Pertussis (DTaP-lPV-Hib-HBV (Hexaxim))
- 3002.41.40 Inactivated Polio Vaccine, Haemophilus Influenzae Type B and Hepatitis B Combined
- 3002.41.25 Pneumococcal Conjugated (PCV)
- 3002.41.50 Vaccine Measles
- 3002.41.55 Tetanus and reduced strength of Diphtheria Vaccine (Td Vaccine)
