Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) spelt out its multi-million rand transformation plan for the port of Mossel Bay during a two-day stakeholder engagement roadshow last week.
TNPA chief executive Shulami Qalinge said the plans would include a mixed-use waterfront development – which could include retail, commercial and industrial facilities.
Additionally, Qalinge said that as part of government’s Operation Phakisa programme a slipway upgrade was currently in the pipeline for the port in order to support local fishing and other industries.
TNPA has partnered with PetroSA to train 14 learners from disadvantaged communities in the Eden District Municipality as welders, turners, fitters and boilermakers to meet the skills development objectives of the Operation Phakisa initiative.
