Zambia’s railway link through Tanzania has been disrupted by flooding at Kisaki, about 193 kilometres south-east of the Port of Dar es Salaam.
Freight not being able to move on the legendary Zambia Tanzania Railway (Tazara) line was expected to put huge pressure on the road network linking landlocked Zambia to its nearest port, logistics consultant Mike Fitzmaurice said.
Fitzmaurice, who also heads up the Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations, added that the damage to the line was relatively easy to repair and would take approximately three weeks.
He said that private sector concerns were already involved in repairing the Tazara line.
