On 05 December the World Customs Organisation (WCO) announced that the Republic of Suriname, a Dutch-speaking country on the north eastern coast of South America, had become a WCO member. Suriname, the smallest sovereign state in South America with a population of approximately 558 368, will be part of the WCO’s Americas/Caribbean region.
