Shoprite Holdings has revealed plans to open logistics centres in Angola and Nigeria to reduce the effects of road and port congestion as it expands across Africa, reports Bloomberg.
CEO Whitey Basson said in a statement last week that sales at the company’s 156 stores outside South Africa rose 20% in the fiscal year through June, showing that “the principle of distribution centres outside South Africa is a must".
Warehouses in Luanda, Angola, are expected to be ready by December, and the supermarket plans a major distribution centre in Lagos, Nigeria as soon as it has found a site, Basson said.
