Ray Smuts STAR REEFERS has poured cold water over media reports of “unsolicited offers” to acquire the line by stating emphatically: “We are not for sale!” A communique from chief executive officer Aage Thoen makes mention of Star suddenly becoming the “theme of the week” through media reports about unsolicited offers to purchase the company. “We therefoe believe it is important to advise you that Star and its shareholders are equally surprised about the initiatives and approaches being made. As a listed company we need to follow a transparent and formal avenue when dealing with our shareholders and the financial community.” Thoen says as things now stand Star’s board of directors have convened and unanimously concluded that Star is NOT for sale. “Star has been working intensely to upgrade the fleet and strengthen its services and the average age of the fleet, has been dramaticaly reduced,” he said.
