Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) will deploy an all-women shift of port workers across three of the country’s busiest ports to celebrate Women’s Day on Friday, 9 August.
In what has become an annual tradition, the all-women shift will be on duty at the ports of Durban, Cape Town and East London to showcase the essential role they play in the day-to-day operations of the ports.
TNPA has also invited top girl pupils who are studying maritime, a subject that is being gradually introduced at school level, to join the all-women maritime crew for the special shift in the workplace. The 15 learners were selected from Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School in Gqeberha, Lawhill Maritime School in Cape Town and Mowat Park High School in Durban.
“These 15 learners will have the opportunity to job shadow accomplished women professionals across various maritime disciplines, gaining valuable insights into the industry,” said the ports authority.
