If you still owe money to the South African Revenue Service (Sars), you’ve missed the deadline which was last Friday - 30 March.
This year 31 March 2011 – the end of the 2011/12 fiscal year - fell on a Saturday (a non-working day) which is why all tax payments had to be made by Friday (as per the normal rule that the last working day of any month is regarded as the due date), according to a Sars statement.
Sars was expecting to bank more than R30 billion on Friday alone, making it the third largest revenue collection day in South Africa’s history.
