The home affairs ministers of South Africa and the Kingdom of Eswatini (Swaziland) have met to explore the potential extension of operating hours at the Oshoek/Ngwenya border post to 24 hours.
Minister Siyabonga Cwele hosted his Eswatini counterpart, Lindiwe Dlamini to discuss matters of migration and trade.
“The main issues discussed were the re-establishment of formal dialogue mechanisms between the two countries and considering modalities around extending the operating hours of the Oshoek/Ngwenya border post to 24 hours,” said the joint statement.
The Ministers also monitored the state of the post of the Easter Period.
As a trial run, the border will operate for 24 hours from 18-21 April 2019.
The Oshoek/Ngwenya crossing is the busiest border between the two countries, accounting for R1.7 billion each year.
