The governments of Zimbabwe and South Africa are in the process of finalising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will guide the operations and management of the New Limpopo Bridge at Beitbridge border post.
Zimbabwe’s state-owned newspaper, The Herald, quoted the country’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development, Dr Joram Gumbo, as saying that the two countries had agreed in principle over most issues. He was hopeful an agreement would be arrived at soon.
He said the new arrangements followed Zimbabwe’s assumption of ownership and operations of the bridge from a private company, New Limpopo Bridge.
Gumbo pointed out that the Zimbabwe National Roads Agency (Zinara) was collecting bridge toll fees on behalf of the government.
