Revamped SAAFF gets ready to deliver

AT ITS annual general meeting last week there were distinct signs that the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF) had been resurrected – now with a business-based structure and a heavyweight board of directors.
“We have a functional structure,” said new chairman Philip Womersley, also chairman of Safcor Panalpina, “and SAAFF will be able to deliver for its members in a way prohibited by the old structure.
“I am enthusiastic, and members are beginning to grasp that something will be achieved.”
This was probably best illustrated by the fact that the nominations for the board were more numerous than the positions available.
Joining Womersley on this new board are Paul Cheetham of Micor as vice-chairman; Kwa Zulu Natal regional director Denver Wright of Röhlig Grindrod; and Western Cape regional director, Gavin Cooper of Seair Freight.
The six other board members are Brian Olwage of DHL/Danzas; Ian Cooper of Cargo Services; John White of Lochhead White and Womersley; Ntokozo Mogorosi of Sebenza; Richard Mallabone of Expeditors; and Brigitte Weisswange of Sabila.
The search for a replacement executive director is also well underway, with gratitude being expressed to Edward Little for his time spent as a stand-in in that position.
