Truck movement into the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from Zambia’s Copper Belt province was said to have come to a halt earlier today after volatile demonstrations were said to have started up again south of the border.
Yesterday the gates to the customs area in Zambia were reportedly closed after political opponents clashed in the vicinity of an informal trader’s market.
The violence was apparently sparked by the dismissal of an MP from Zambia’s Parliament.
Transporters travelling towards the copper mining area of Lubumbashi in the DRC are warned to proceed with caution, and are requested to check with the relevant authorities whether it’s safe and whether the border is open.
