BREAKBULK SPECIALIST Pro Line of Hamburg has put South Africa firmly in its growth development sights with plans to upgrade service frequency on its South America - South Africa - Far East service.
The line, which has been operating on the route for 14 years, currently offers one sailing every five weeks. "By speeding up turnaround and improving operational efficiencies, we intend to increase that to one sailing every four weeks," Pro LineÕs Torsten Bender told FTW in Johannesburg last week.
Shipping mainly steel, granite, project cargoes and industrial machinery, the line believes that its reliable schedules, competitive freight rates and customer focus are what has kept its client base coming back for more.
Flexibility is another cornerstone of the service, says Bender.
"There is no fixed port rotation. We go where the cargo goes," he added.
Four owned ships ranging from 15 000 to 20 000 tons dwt geared to 125 tons are deployed on the trade.
