Cargo volumes moving through the port of Mombasa broke all records last year following the construction of a second container terminal, Kenya Port Authority (KPA) managing director Daniel Manduku said last week during a media briefing.
He said cargo handling at the port had grown 7.3% to 1.42 million TEUs in 2019.
There had been unprecedented growth in transit and transhipment business, he added.
The availability of ample yard space following the construction of the second container terminal and investment in cargo handling facilities had facilitated the improved performance.
