Based on its assessment of the global economic situation, operating environment and supply and demand for container vessels, Hong Kong’s Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL) has entered into an agreement with Seaspan to charter six brand new 13 000-TEU container vessels for a maximum aggregate amount of RMB 11.2 billion ($1.6bn).
The vessels are expected to be delivered from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2028 and will be chartered for 15 years from delivery.
The move is designed to ensure steady growth in fleet capacity and provide advantages of economies of scale.
