Hundreds of trucks transporting commodities between Nigeria and Chad have been stranded along the borders of the two countries following the closure of the borders after the declaration of emergency in some local government areas of Borno State, reports the Nigerian newspaper, Daily Trust.
The chairman of the Trucks Owners Association, Alhaji Kabir Abdullahi Ambursa, appealed to the Federal Government to review the closure of borders to enable the trucks convey their goods.
He said over 500 lorries were now stranded at Gamboru Ngala following the closure of the border between Nigeria and Chad.
He said the essential commodities on the truck could be spoilt if allowed to continue stay, noting that commodities were to be transported to the Republic of Chad, Togo and Ghana.
He appealed to Federal Government to reconsider the decision as some of the areas that affected their movement were part of local government areas under the emergency rule.
President Goodluck Jonathan declared state emergency in the areas in January following the violent activities of the Boko Haram sect.
