HELLMANN WORLDWIDE Logistics' new Hollogic Suite, a tracking system which has been developed over the past three years, is planned to be on-line
by July next year, when all
130 countries in the company's
network will be linked.
We will have a tunnel on the internet, says South African IT manager Mike Parr. During the past year we've made extensive changes to our in-house system to be in line with the worldwide link.
All our Netware 3.12 servers have been upgraded to Netware 5 to take advantage of Netware's NDS tree structure. The hardware standard is a Compaq 3000 server and all the routers have been moved over to a Cisco base.
This has been achieved in preparation for the new Hollogic Suite which will operate on Oracle databases.
The suite itself will provide a variety of options. These are:
l Hell*Air, an airfreight operation system;
l Hell*Sea, the seafreight equivalent;
l Hell*Ordis, a purchase order co-ordination and distribution system;
l Hell*EDI, a clearing system for EDI-standardised messages; and
l Hell*NET, the global telecommunication network.
In addition, says Parr, Hellmann is also in the process of rolling out its new e-mail platform which is based on Lotus Notes.
