The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Metro Police are cracking down on overloading and unroadworthy vehicles.
In a special two-hour operation, the municipality recently issued traffic fines totalling R21 200.
“Our Ghost Squad [will be] operating in 24-hour shifts, which means law enforcement on our roads takes place on a continuous basis that should ultimately be for the benefit of all law abiding citizens,” said MMC for Safety and Security, John Best.
R10 500 worth of fines was issued to drivers without drivers’ licences, R2000 for unroadworthy vehicles and R300 for unlicensed and unregistered vehicles, according to the Municipality’s media management officer, Kupido Baron.
