Transporters heading to South Africa’s Beitbridge Border Post with Zimbabwe are advised to still proceed with caution in the immediate vicinity of Musina where violent service delivery protests have caused road disruption.
This after hauliers were advised to send their drivers to truck parks for safety yesterday.
Latest information received from the Transit Assistance Bureau (Transist) this morning is that the road is clear - but then more information came through of protests flaring up again.
Main roads such as the R572 adjacent to Nancefield, where most of the protesters live, remain dangerous.
Yesterday warnings were also issued about the N1 in the vicinity of Baobab Petroleum and the China Mall.
At about noon, a Transist member posted on the Bureau’s WhatsApp group that the N1 seemed to be the best way through Musina.
He said one of his trucks had passed through without any issues.
It appears that police intervention and visibility at the moment is having the desired effect.
However, protests flare up sporadically when police leave an area of unrest.
Transporters are advised to stay updated about the situation in Musina whenever possible.
