Ethiopian Airlines and Bombardier Commercial Aircraft have concluded a firm order for ten new Q400 turboprop aircraft valued at approximately US$332 million.
The new aircraft will support additional domestic capacity in Ethiopia, as well as the airline’s new partnership hubs in Mozambique, Chad and Equatorial Guinea.
The major African airline is the largest operator of Q400 aircraft in Africa, currently operating 22 Q400 turboprops based in Addis Ababa and through its partners ASKY and Malawian Airlines in Lome and Lilongwe respectively.
Ethiopian Airlines is expected to take delivery of two more of the aircraft in 2018 and with the conclusion of the new firm order – which includes purchase rights for five additional Q400s – will increase its fleet to 39.
