A maintenance dredging campaign, set to commence in early April at the port of Cape Town, will restore the design depths at certain berths inside Duncan Dock, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has announced.
The campaign aims to ensure that the port is able to provide safe navigational channels and berthing facilities for shipping.
Two dredging vessels – the Isandlwana, a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, and the Italeni, a Grab Hopper Dredger – have been mobilised for this purpose.
According to the TNPA, surveys will be done at regular intervals to inspect the process, ensuring that all areas within Duncan Dock are restored to their original design depths.
