Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has called for interested parties to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a suitable terminal operator to finance, design, construct, and operate a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal at the Port of Cape Town.
The call for interested parties also requires the investor to develop common-user infrastructure for the handling of LPG at the Liquid Bulk Precinct in the port for a period of 25 years.
TNPA said in a statement that as a result of the growing demand for the commodity, the port had identified vacant land for the storage and handling of LPG, which is targeted for a niche market in the City of Cape Town and parts of the Western Cape.
"The RFP for LPG is in line with the port's liquid bulk strategy for developing alternative energy sources and supports the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy's (DMRE) LPG rollout strategy," said Rajesh Dana, Cape Town’s port manager.
RFP documents can be accessed from the National Treasury's e-tender portal www.etender.gov.za and/or the Transnet’s website.
A briefing session has been scheduled for 19 May.
Responses to the RFP must be submitted by no later than 15 June at 4pm as per the submission requirements of the RFP.
