">Plans are under way for a massive refurbishment of Kenya’s Kisumu port to create a trade and logistics alternative to the port of Mombasa.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) MD, Daniel Manduku, said the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) would also rehabilitate the old railway line from Nakuru to Kisumu.
"I want to confirm that as KPA we are committed to the rehabilitation of Mombasa port as well as Kisumu. We have launched the first phase of the rehabilitation project to remove the water hyacinth. After that we shall start the actual construction work of the pier, extension of the quay side to 900 metres, a new office block, workshops and a slipway,” he said.
