The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) confirmed to FTW Online earlier this evening (Tuesday) that an investigation into the cause of the plane crash near the Wonderboom airport in Pretoria had begun.
A spokesperson said in a Whatsapp statement that further details would be issued tomorrow. He also confirmed that there had been one fatality and at least 19 people injured in the crash.
Spokesperson for ER24, Russel Meiring, said the injuries ranged from minor to critical. The charter plane is believed to have crashed into a factory close to the residential area of Derdepoort late this afternoon.
Arrive Alive highlighted in a statement on its website that heavy delays had been experienced on the Moloto Road close to the scene of the crash.
Unconfirmed media reports have stated that the plane belonged to a Dutch-owned cargo company. Photos posted online by Arrive Alive and ER24 show the plane marked as Martin’s Air Charter.
