The World Customs Organization (WCO) initiated International Customs Day in 1983, and as a consequence, on 26 January each year, it honours all customs officials and agencies that day in, and day out, toil to ensure effective world trade management.
This year the theme of the celebration is “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose”.
International Customs Day celebrates the diversity of customs around the world. By learning about and respecting different customs, we can promote cultural understanding and foster a more inclusive and tolerant society.
International Customs Day also serves as a reminder to preserve and honour traditional practices that may be at risk of disappearing in today's fast-paced world. This helps to maintain cultural heritage and ensure that future generations can learn about their roots.
International Customs Day recognizes the role that these customs play in creating a global interconnected economy, promoting peace and prosperity among nations.
