Sweden’s intermodal freight terminal – currently based in the city centre of Gothenburg – will be moved to the Port of Gothenburg at the beginning of 2018.
This will allow for a higher proportion of transport by rail instead of road, according to online sources.
Currently, freight at the intermodal terminal is transferred from rail to road but this will change once the terminal is relocated to the Arken area next to Gothenburg Roro Terminal in the Port of Gothenburg.
“As approximately 70% of the freight is related to the port, it will be an extremely advantageous location,” Arvid Guthed, vice president port development at the Gothenburg Port Authority (GPA), was quoted by online news site, Port Technology, as saying.
He noted that the intermodal terminal at the port would have the same capacity as the current terminal.
