Greek ports are facing complete stoppage following an announcement by the Port of Piraeus Dockworkers’ Union that they plan to launch repeated 48-hour strikes, starting from May 26, in protest against the port’s privatisations process, the union said in a statement.
The strike will affect traffic at the Piraeus port.
The unions are protesting against the sale of the country’s two biggest ports, Piraeus and Thessaloniki.
The workers fear that the privatisation could cost them their jobs with the possibility of foreign port operators introducing a cheaper workforce.
