The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has refuted reports that state freight forwarders are sabotaging its new paperless ports system.
According to a statement released by the authority yesterday (Tuesday), these allegations are untrue as freight forwarders across the country have voiced their support for the new system.
The paperless ports system was implemented at all ports across the country on September 1 in an effort to speed up the process of clearing goods at ports while blocking revenue leakages.
President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, Kwabena Ofosu Appiah, noted that they had been a part of the process since the paperless system’s initial stages and therefore would not sabotage it.
“We want it to succeed and we shall not suffer the naysayers’ prophecy to hold sway”, he said.
The GPHA, however, also pointed out that clearing agents had over the past few weeks protested about slow internet connectivity and poor implementation of the new system which they said were causing delays.
