On 17 December 2021, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) announced its final determination into its investigation into extension of safeguard measures on imports of certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy steel or other alloy steel (not including stainless steel), whether or not in coils (including products cut-to-length and ‘narrow strip’), not further worked than hot-rolled (hot-rolled flat), not clad, plated or coated, excluding grain-oriented silicon electrical steel.
ITAC’s final determination is contained in its Report No.674 “Investigation into the extension of safeguard measures on imports of certain flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy steel or other alloy steel (not including stainless steel), whether or not (including products cut-to-length and ‘narrow strip’), not further worked than hot-rolled (hot-rolled flat), not clad, plated or coated, excluding grain-oriented silicon electrical steel: final determination.”
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition rejected ITAC’s final determination. The investigation is therefore terminated.
It is not known what the Minister’s reasoning was for the decision.
