Marking an historic first for the expanded Tema port, the first commercial vessel docked at Terminal 3 last weekend - three years after construction had begun to complete the first two berths, the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) announced on Tuesday.
The Maersk Cape Coast discharged 1 427 containers and loaded 730 containers.
“The port displayed the readiness of the semi-automated procedures and upgraded paperless processes after 36 months of infrastructural work, testing and training,” said a GPHA spokesman.
The technological advancements at the terminal are the first of their kind in West Africa.
“It will establish the connectivity needed to stimulate Ghana’s trade and industry effectively,” he said.
