KNOWING THE client's business is an essential ingredient in the provision of exacting supply chain solutions, which is one of the reasons why Exel has been appointed to handle all the logistics requirements of photographic company Kodak throughout South Africa.
The range of services includes all warehousing and distribution across a broad selection of products. This includes the handling of all of the commercial photographic products such as cameras and films sold direct to consumers, as well as the management of photographic paper and chemicals delivered to business users.
The products are
managed through Exel's
multi-user centre in Johannesburg and transported to several regional centres across South Africa.
The contract is supported by specialist IT systems that enable accurate inventory management within the warehouse and provide the most responsive delivery options to Kodak customers, says Ian Logie, m.d. of Exel South Africa.
"As the chemicals involved with photographic development are toxic in nature, Exel has worked closely with Kodak and built on its own experience of handling hazardous material elsewhere in its global logistics business to develop a supply chain solution that ensures minimal risk to staff, customers and the local environment."
