ALTHOUGH EXTENSIVE fencing and other security measures have been installed at the Point and at Maydon Wharf in Durban, a restriction on container handling imposed by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will remain in force, at least for the time being.
It seems an electronic glitch occurred with the final implementation of an electronic release system between the Portnet and SARS systems, and until this is sorted out no containers may be handled within the demarcated areas. Portnet IT personnel say they are hopeful they will have the kinks ironed out shortly.
