In 2015 Dubai International retained its spot as the world’s busiest passenger airport – a status it grabbed from London’s Heathrow in 2014.
Traffic at Dubai in 2015 grew 10.7% to 78 million passengers from 70.5 million in 2014. It again beat Heathrow, reported Airwise News, where passenger numbers grew only 2.2% to 75m, according to figures on its website.
Meantime, cargo volumes at Dubai International grew 3.4% to 2.51 million tonnes last year despite the transfer of all pure cargo operations to the new Dubai World Central airport. December freight volumes rose 5% year-on-year to 218 408 tonnes, the operator said.
