The Wallonia Brussels Trade Commission in Johannesburg, together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Pretoria and Flanders Investment and Trade (FIT), invite traders and supply chain operators to a hybrid seminar showcasing the advantages of using Belgium as a gateway to Europe.

The event, to be held on November 3, will target South African exporters to Europe who want to streamline their operations either by setting up a distribution centre in Belgium or by partnering with local logistics entities.

In addition to a welcoming and introductory address, attendees can expect focus presentations on the following topics: a Kwa-Zulu Natal overview of trade and investment opportunities (the physical location of the hybrid event is the Capital Pearls Hotel in Umhlanga), how to expand your business in the European Union, Industrial Flanders and incentives when starting in Europe, global air platforming and the number one multimodal gateway for African airfreight into Europe, and the Port of Antwerp as a gateway to and from Europe.

The presentations will be followed by a question and answer (Q&A) session.

Julie Tirtiaux, trade and investment adviser for the Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (Awex), will deliver the opening address, which will be followed by an introductory address by Didier Vanderhasselt, Belgium’s ambassador to South Africa.

The presentations will be presented by the following experts: Neville Matjie, CEO of Trade & Investment Kwa-Zulu Natal (TIKZN); Jean-Pierre Muller, trade commissioner for Awex; Luc Fabry, trade commissioner for FIT; Steven Verhasselt, commercial director of Liege Airport; and Tineke van de Voorde, business development adviser at the Port of Antwerp.

The Q&A session will be moderated by Donnee Kruger, manager at the Gauteng office of TIKZN.

Claudine Vandenabeele of the Belgian Chamber of Commerce for South Africa will make the closing remarks.

The seminar starts at 10am and will run through to 12:30.
