A joint initiative between software service provider EasyClear, We Think software solutions and Inspections company Global DFS has seen the launch of a digital platform enabling the formerly manual and time-consuming process of cargo inspections to go digital.

Global DFS are an inspection company in South Africa with a truly national footprint, managing branches in Pretoria, Johannesburg, OR Tambo, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, embracing technology to bring ground-breaking cargo initiatives to trade with exciting innovations.
We Think Software solutions, which started in 2010, initially with the aim of developing user-friendly warehousing management solutions, quickly identified gaps in the supply chain. Today it offers solutions for container and transport management, with clients spanning 23 countries across various industry sectors within the supply chain, providing a flexible, customisable approach.
Clearing and forwarding agents using EasyClear for the submission of the customs declaration electronically via EDI, and Global DFS for the cargo inspection process, can now automate the initiation of the inspection process and receive the inspection reports in “real time” electronically thanks to the industry initiative pioneered by these three companies. The same inspection reports are being uploaded and sent to the SARS inspection teams to reference against their own reports.
The benefits to trade are enormous and the potential exists to do a cargo inspection using the Global DFS application from any mobile device before the cargo even leaves the country of origin. However the first phase focuses currently on the local inspection process and automation of it, as an EDI with the status Query/Stop/ Detain for inspection can automatically start the inspection process with the Global DFS inspection team. This reduces the number of calls needed to start this process and emails required to provide the necessary documentation as the system automatically provides all of the necessary details and documentation required for the inspection process. In addition it provides peace of mind to clients as photos of the cargo can be taken and attached to the report received in real time as the report is generated onsite and not hours later when the inspection team reaches their office.
