Dear Customs client
The previously communicated letter, “Discontinuation of General Codes”, dated 11 May 2022 refers.
Following further discussions with the South African Express Parcel Association (SAEPA), the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF), and the Air Cargo Committee (ACOC), SARS will make the following codes available for use in respect of Charter Cargo not transported under a Master Air Waybill (MAWB) or Master Bill of Lading
(MBL), as well as for Passenger Carried Cargo.
• ZCH – Charter Cargo (No MAWB / MBL)
• ZCP – Passenger Carried Cargo
Following the receipt of several queries in this regard, please note that the codes “ZA8 Import or Export of Aircraft” and “ZA6 Military Aircraft” are already available for use in the appropriate circumstances.
All couriers, freight forwarders, clearing agents, importers and exporters submitting customs clearance declarations to SARS must use these codes correctly to avoid any delays in the processing and release of their customs clearance declarations.
Charter parties, and the agents which represent them locally, must ensure that registration formalities for cargo reporting purposes are completed prior to charter flights arriving in, or departing from, the Republic.
