Growing the Western Cape
market remains high on the
agenda of CHC Container Depot
which recently relocated to
generate more capacity.
According to Jerome Wolhuter,
operations manager for CHC
Container Depot in Cape Town,
the original facility in Paarden
Eiland where the company set
up shop when it first opened its
doors in the Western Cape late in
2011, became too small within
six months.
“We have since moved to a
new facility in Montague Gardens
that is double the size of the
Paarden Eiland facility,” he said.
“We now have a 5000-sqm under
roof warehouse with a further
7000-sqm yard available.”
The company has a clear
strategy on how to grow its
market share – and part of this
involves streamlining processes
to ensure efficiency and
reliability.
“One example is that we have
already managed to reduce the
release time of cargo from our
warehouse by 20% in the past
few months – and all cargo is
treated as if it belongs to CHC
personally.”
Wolhuter said the new premises
were centrally located – close
enough to the port and without
much congestion – allowing for
a free flow of containers to and
from the port.
