Don't panic, we're sorting out the problem, says David Yang
ADDING TO the problems of container delays at the Port of Durban, Nantai Shipping Enterprises had two containers vessels under arrest last week - one in Durban and the other at Cape Town.
Nantai Dragon was attached shortly after arrival in Durban and FTW understands the reason is a dispute over charter party payments involving the ship owner in Mainland China. According to David Yang, Nantai's representative in South Africa, the dispute is likely to take some time to resolve.
"The ship in Durban will take a while," he confirmed. "It involves claims worth about R300 000 over ship repair due to accident damage - but the matter is very complicated. The real story is in China," said Yang.
"However we expect the Nantai Venus will be cleared up quite quickly - this is a simple dispute between the owner and the leasing party."
Yang said he wished to assure clients there was no reason for panic.
"We will sort out these problems. We apologise to our clients for the inconvenience."
