AFRICAN SATELLITE Corporation (ASC) has developed an interface between its GlobalTrack unit and one of the leading products for temperature control on refrigerated trucks.
Since it is especially important to control reefer trucks operating throughout Africa on a continuous basis across the borders, a link is vital for commercial reasons. Insurance companies and customers receiving frozen goods insist on consistent and ongoing temperature monitoring of food products.
Deviation from the prescribed temperature during transportation will result in rejection of the whole load by the customer. For cross border frozen transport, this rejection is extremely expensive.
The GlobalTrack unit, in combination with the thermo control units, alerts the operator to any temperature deviation and can send alarm conditions to the internet web site from which an SMS message can be sent to the operational staff in South Africa via a cell phone.
