BMW South Africa will start construction of its planned new body panel plant later this month, as part of its R6-billion investment in its South African operations.
The body shop at the BMW Rosslyn Plant in Pretoria will be building the upcoming BMW X3.
The German manufacturer believes the plant, which will also focus on manufacturing the next generation XS SUVs, will help grow the country's economy.
Production at this plant has been taking place for close to 50 years and BMW says the latest expansion forms part of its “continued efforts to up-skill South African workers while introducing state-of-the-art technologies”.
