Walvis Bay-based Logistics Support Services (LSS) has appointed all-rounder Wilhelm Laubscher to help the company increase its Namibian presence by ensuring better internal coordination of the range of services provided by the company.“Wilhelm’s task is to provide clients with a total supply chain solution using all the experience gained over the years, which includes forwarding, clearing, shipping, financial services and transport,” says Nico Oberholzer, business development manager at LSS.The company, which has been on a strong growth trajectory since it was established a decade ago, recognises the need to consolidate before the next expansion, he says.“My goal is to secure more long-term contracts with the larger role players in Namibia and neighbouring countries,” Laubscher told Freight News.“We have a good track record in project management to build on, and will provide a one-stop-shop service that includes warehousing.”Services provided by LSS include vessel agency, husbandry, warehousing, international freight forwarding, special projects, sourcing and procurement, customs brokerage, and logistics consulting. There are no plans to move into transport as this market is already well catered for.“We will stick to our knitting,” says Laubscher. One of the ways through which the internal processes are being better integrated is through cross-training, where customs agents are taught how to drive forklifts, for example. “By working in the different divisions, people become more aware of what is involved, and learn how to cooperate better,” says Oberholzer.Laubscher also fits this profile as he has practical experience in working with all the links in the supply chain, he adds.
