A cross-border trade facilitator has reported that “all is calm” and that a strong police presence means the imminent road freight sector strike in Mozambique is not causing any disruptions.
According to an official statement sent out by Fematro, the Mozambique Federation of Road Carriers Associations, the national strike is scheduled to start at midnight tonight (October 21).
The statement says: “In order to guarantee the safety and safeguard the physical integrity of all citizens, we recommend that you avoid travelling on public roads during the strike period.”
Fematro said it was hoped that by avoiding the unnecessary use of the country’s roads, the potential for risk would be minimised.
“We reinforce the importance of defensive driving for those who, for urgent reasons, need to use the roads.
“Fematro is committed to keeping the population informed about any changes or developments in events through our official communication channels.”
The federation said it “counts on everyone’s understanding and collaboration so that we can guarantee public well-being and safety”.
