The Cape Town shipping community has taken decisive action to address the challenges facing the Port of Cape Town.
A commission of enquiry has been set up headed by the chair of Exporters’ Western Cape, Terry Gale, which falls under the auspices of the Port Consultative Committee (PCC).
It will report directly to the ministers of transport and public enterprises, and concerns will be presented to the PCC on Friday, November 12.
“Engagement is taking place with the major role-players within the supply chain, be it transporters, manufacturers, importers, exporters, forwarding agents, etc,” Gale told Freight News.
The major shipping lines on the SA trade had already provided valuable input, to enable the commission to move forward, he said.
“Should any organisation or company have any challenges they face/business lost that can substantiate our case to government, please contact me directly at terry@ecwc.org.za.”
All information received will be treated in strictest confidence.
Deadline is Wednesday, November 10.
