CONTRACTS FOR the extension of one of the runways at Johannesburg International Airport as well as for improvements to runways at Cape Town International Airport have been awarded by the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA).
Concor Thuso has been granted the contract to extend the Charlie runway at JIA to meet future demands when new widebodied aircraft will be flying in from international routes. The contract is worth R24,14 million.
A joint venture between two companies, Blitz and Shar Civils, will undertake the R29,2 million rehabilitation of runways at Cape Town's airport. No completion date for either contract has been stated.
