Salt volumes out of Namibia are on the rise, according to the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) which has seen an increase in export figures at the Port of Walvis Bay.Elisa Hasheela, Namport acting executive: commercial services, said the Port of Walvis Bay had been a hive of salty activity in early August when two vessels were docked to load salt destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Maria Da Paz loaded 4500 metric tons of bagged salt while the Uniscout loaded 7000, all destined for the Port of Matadi in the Congo.“Over the past four months, Namport has recorded a combined total (bagged and bulk salt) of 160 186 metric tons exported via the Port of Walvis Bay to various destinations,” said Hasheela who indicated salt exports had increased overall compared to 2020.For mining and commodity exports in particular, high demand for vessels, and not enough supply, will remain the norm for the next few months at least.– Mikhail Kramer“
