Mozambique has opened a 6 647-square-metre commercial complex in Pemba, the capital of the country’s northwestern-most province of Cabo Delgado which, until last year, was still destabilised by Jihadist militia.
The ACRE Business Park, so named because of the development’s principal investor, African Century Real Estate, is located in the centre of the port city on Avenue Alberto Joaquim Chipande.
ACRE has said in a statement that the development consists of four warehouses ranging from 750 to 1 100 sqms in size, nine ground floor retail stores of 46-160 sqms, and 1 340 sqms of office space.
Its client profile already includes blue tenants like FNB, Cash & Carry, Unicef, the World Health Organization, and Médecins Sans Frontières.
ACRE reported that last week’s official opening of the business park by the province’s governor, Valige Tauabo, symbolised the realtor’s commitment to Cabo Delgado.
This is despite violent insurrections that claimed the lives of countless people, caused massive destruction to property, and threatened to destabilise Mozambique’s $60-billion liquid natural gas (LNG) project in the Rovuma Basin further north.
ACRE said last March’s massive incursion southward of heavily armed militia had disrupted its Aparthotel in Pemba, as well as a camp for 600 people and an office building meant to support LNG work about 240 kilometres further north.
The realtor’s CEO, Pedro Pinto, said: “The country and Cabo Delgado should welcome the enormous effort that is being made to minimise the impact of these terrible events, and must continue to look to the future.”
