President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to launch South Africa’s first-ever cell phone development factory, Mara Phone Plant, at the Dube Trade Port in KwaZulu-Natal later this week. The modern, state-of-the-art plant will produce over 1.2 million handsets, and is expected to manufacture two models of smartphones – the Mara X and Mara Z.
The new plant falls in line with the District-Based Development Model which announced in the June State of the Nation Address, and will focus on supplying resources to 44 districts and eight metros to explore new business ventures and speed up service delivery.
