Hopes are high that the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) will unlock East Africa’s future, with final agreements concluded, paving the way for construction to begin. This 1 443km crude oil export pipeline from Hoima in Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania, will be the longest heated crude oil pipeline in the world once completed. It will also move Uganda’s oil to the rest of the world, benefiting not only this country but also Tanzania.Last month Total concluded the final agreements required to launch this major project, which is part of the bigger Lake Albert development that also encompasses the Tilenga and Kingfisher upstream oil projects in Uganda. The Tilenga project, operated by Total, and the Kingfisher project, operated by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), are expected to deliver a combined production of 230 000 barrels of oil per day at plateau. At present, the most valuable project in East Africa is the Bagamoyo mega port in Tanzania.– Deloitte Africa“
