A new programme designed to address the poor representation of women in executive roles in the transport industry has been developed.
Women employed in the transport sector account for just 17.8% of the workforce, with only 10% making it into executive roles.
Talking to Freight News about these figures, Nicci Scott, founder of the Commercial Transport Academy (CTA), said that the CTA Excellence programme had been developed for that reason.
“We have identified 120 women that are already in the industry. These women are all in junior and middle management and simply want to be developed. The CTA has collaborated with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) to design and implement a purpose-driven training solution that will inspire women to improve their knowledge, learn new skills, and advance their management and leadership abilities, with the goal of remaining in the sector,” said Scott.
Successful candidates will receive the CILT International Diploma in Logistics and Transport.
This is the third programme which falls under the CTA’s ‘Women inspiring women to lead in Transport’ initiative which was launched last month.
The initiative is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with strong industry support from Hollard, Volvo, Ctrack, Standard Bank, Onelogix/Trucklogix, CILT, and Commerce Edge.
